Zero has a notable unfriendly outward appearance upon first glance because he usually wears a frown(probably subconsciously). This usually creates the image that he is unsocial, quiet and unapproachable to others. Thus, most usually avoid him. There is half truth stated above that he can be rather quiet, but he is social only when he wants to be. He is social to only by far a few people so to speak, Kurosu(Cross) Yuuki & Kaien Kurosu. Although, he will speak only when spoken to.

Zero was born into the Kiryuu family of vampire hunters as a human originally. It was not until his whole entire family(except his twin brother, Ichiru) was massacred by Shizuka Hiou, a pure blooded vampire. She then bit him and turned him into a vampire while Ichiru followed her and was taken in as a servant(or so it seems according to the manga). He eventually developed a deep hatred towards vampires. Thereafter, Zero was taken in by Chairman Kaien Kurosu(Cross) and was enrolled into the Cross Academy as a student. He met Yuuki Cross whom he treats as a sister at first but eventually came to love her. He was then selected as a prefect and guardian for the ensured safety of the Day Class students(humans) while the Night Class students(vampires) were on their way to class. It was not until recently that when Shizuka Hiou paid a visit to Cross Academy, Kuran Kaname killed her and drank her blood. Zero then met his brother once more, who desired to kill him but decided that now was not the time.
Eventually, Zero’s vampiric urges was beginning to grow into a level that was difficult to suppress. At first he protested but eventually caved in when Kuran Kaname offered his blood to him to slow his transformation rate of a Level E remarkably. Thereafter, he discovered that Kaname and Yuuki were siblings. Step siblings to be specific. He found out after Yuuki had regained her memories.
(Out of manga plotline, this was discussed by Kaname-mun & me.)From there onwards, he began to feel more drawn towards Kaname after drinking his blood. From a minor tingling feeling, it grew into something overwhelming and insuppressible. Zero then realized he needed more of not only Kaname’s blood but his attention and attraction. Zero’s feelings towards Yuuki began to channel towards Kaname, which was practically uncontrollable. Zero felt like he was suffering terribly from the presence of Kaname every time he fed on his blood. It was difficult to accept and even more difficult to handle, especially when Zero knew he hated Kaname but loved him at the same time. Zero never really got around to saying anything though.
Zero was going to be executed by the Council of Ancients because he was discovered by the fact that he was indeed relying Kaname’s blood. In the manga, it states that anybody who even cuts one of the purebloods are doomed to death penalty. A huge debate erupted between Kaname and the Council of Ancients. Eventually they caved in, but Kaname knew it was not the end because he knew they believed someone like “Zero Kiryuu, a vampire hunter” should be eliminated from the face of this Earth. As expected, when several ‘unknown’ assassins attempted to take Zero’s life, Kaname came to save him in the nick of time.
They had a huge argument afterwards. At first it started out as a simple argument where Zero said he could handle them(which is a lie, read 3rd POV RP sample to understand why) but soon they exchanged harsh stinging words that weren’t all truth. Almost immediately afterwards, Kaname had transferred to another academy which made Zero shocked at Kaname’s sudden course of actions, especially since he knew that he actually had feelings for Yuuki. Zero was kind of mad since Yuuki, whom he treats as a sister again, alone and upset.
Zero was left in confusion, anger and sorrow. It was a few months before Zero finally decided he wanted a confrontation on why Kaname left. He needed to clear his doubts so he enrolled into Dusk Academy as a student. That was partially why he wanted to enroll into DA. The other reason is that Kaien Kurosu sent him here where it was considered more safe from the Council Of Ancients’ assassins.
